In the heart of New York City, one luxury hotel uses more than 100,000 lamps to create a world-class space for guests. Designed by Atlanta-based architect John Portman, this hotel anchors Times Square and has 1,909 rooms on 49 floors. The building completed a recent lighting overhaul with WB, converting all interior and exterior lamps to LEDs.
The $2.1M project – which included LED upgrades in all guestrooms plus 130,000 sq. ft. of meeting space and a dizzying 40-story atrium – took less than 3 months.
The move to LEDs has significantly reduced the building’s overall energy usage. The hotel now saves 3,999,388 kWh annually, and the project’s simple payback (with lamp avoidance and rebates) is a quick .53 years!
